Five Protective Stones/Crystals You Can Carry in Your Pocket

As paranormal investigators, we often place ourselves in situations that are, to say the least, psychically and physically challenging. We gladly walk into situations and structures that are reportedly haunted, and seek to find evidence of even the most negative of spirits often avoiding sleep, not eating well, and ignoring the signals from our bodies that tell us something is wrong in the process.

Many forget to take precautions when entering into these situations, and I’m not sure why. We wouldn’t walk onto a battlefield without carrying a weapon. Why would we enter into an uncertain psychic situation without also protecting ourselves?

There are a host of methods to protect oneself from negative energies. They can be as simple as a quiet prayer, or as complicated as a full on ritual. The point is that you take whatever you use seriously.

One of my favorite methods is to carry certain crystals, minerals, or rocks in my pocket. It doesn’t seem like much, but the right stones will do their job in a pinch without much preparation at all.

Take a look at this list of five stones/crystals, most of which you can purchase online, that you can take on your next investigation to help protect yourself from any nasty entities you might meet, and don’t forget to let us know your favorites in the comments!

#1 Hematite

Hematite is one amazing mineral because it comes with its own built in warning system. The mineral form of iron(III) oxide absorbs negative energy from your environment, and when it has taken in all it can hold, it will actually break on its own.

I’ll never forget walking into a residence that was rumored to have a particularly nasty entity in residence. I carried a nice large piece of hematite with me as I entered the home with an investigative group that had asked me to tag along. We’d been in the home no more than 15 minutes when we all heard a rather loud crack from my pocket.

I quickly produced the stone only to discover it had cracked in three places and had lost some of its luster. Everyone sat staring at the pieces for about 30 seconds before the lead investigator broke the tension by suggesting I wear looser fitting pants. There was nervous laughter all around as I’d worn a nice, baggy pair of cargo pants on this particular investigation.

I can assure you that we proceeded with extreme caution the rest of the evening, and I was happy I’d brought along a few other protective supplies for that particular investigation. What we found gave me nightmares for a week, but that’s a story for another day.

#2 Amethyst

Amethyst is, in many ways, a psychic catch-all.  Not only will it absorb the negative energy from your environment, but it will also help you stay balanced and focused.

Amethyst is widely known for it’s restorative properties, as well.

So if you come back from an investigation, and you just aren’t feeling well, put a piece of amethyst under your pillow before you go to bed. As you sleep, the amethyst will aid in cleansing your energy of any negativity you might have absorbed while investigating and you’ll wake up feeling rejuvenated.

#3 Quartz crystal

I love a good piece of quartz crystal. It’s a psychic catch all that can be used for just about anything you like because it effectively mimics the properties of any other stone.

Known for its milky to clear coloring, quartz crystal is excellent for investigators Like the others mentioned before, quartz crystal can be used to absorb negative energy, but it can also be used to shield you from that energy to begin with.

That’s right. It will effectively work to strengthen a human being’s aura to keep the negative energies and entities from touching you.

I recommend cleaning these crystals in lightly salted water between uses, and for an extra kick, let them sit exposed to moonlight.

#4 Lapis Lazuli

Probably the most beautiful stone on this list, lapis lazuli has been highly regarded and coveted throughout time for its rich coloring, but this stone isn’t just another pretty face.

Lapis has long been believed to increase wisdom and good judgement which makes it a practical boon for investigators especially the ones known for making less than intelligent choices while on the job. You know who I’m talking about…if you don’t, ask your friends because it might be you!

I joke, but lapis lazuli is always a good stone to carry with you for mental clarity in the face of tough decisions. So, when it’s 3 am and you’re considering going (by yourself) back to the room where your team experienced serious threats via EVP on your last visit, take a moment to rub your thumb along its surface and consider whether you’re making a wise decision.

#5 Turquoise

Turquoise is one of the oldest stones known to have been revered by man from as long ago as 6000 BCE. It is considered to bridge the gap between the masculine and the feminine and is valued for its protective and restorative traits.

I recommend everyone on your team carry a piece of turquoise with them on investigations as it aids in teamwork. The stone promotes open communication and will protect you from negative energies while bolstering your confidence. I’ve also noticed that it seems to promote a calmness to those who keep the stone close to them.

If you forget to bring it with you, however, turquoise can still be used when you return from investigating. Simply run a hot bath and place the stone in the water. You can literally feel your energy being restored and negativity being leached from the body into the water.
